First Regional Award for Successful Service-Learning Practice.
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the First Regional Award for successful Service-Learning practice, aimed at pinpointing and acknowledging the work of educational institutions that are developing Service-Learning projects that promote active youth citizenship and integrate students’ curricular learning with Service-Learning actions to the benefit of the community.
We know that education quality does not simply imply transmitting academic content, but it demands training students in democratic participation, focusing on improving learning and the quality of life of the community.
The Regional Award Committee shall assess all the experiences submitted and shall provide feedback and suggestions on their progress and optimization.
To that end, International Organization “Interactive Open Schools” (further on MIOS) and partners of the Service-Learning Network for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE SL Network) with the support of Latin-American Centre for Service-Learning (CLAYSS) invites all primary and secondary schools that are developing and conducting Service-Learning practice to participate in the First Regional Award for Successful Service-Learning Practice.
THE AWARD IS AIMED AT:
- - Collecting and systematizing Service-Learning practice that allow students to broaden learning horizons and to commit themselves to transforming their communities jointly with other social actors.
- - Acknowledging the schools that better integrate students’ curricular learning with service actions aimed at improving the quality of life of their communities.
- - Creating visibility for the teachers who commit themselves to the implementation of a Service-Learning practice aimed at improving education quality and inclusion, which could lead to social transformation, and for the students whose educational trajectory is oriented towards active citizenship.
- - Promoting and disseminating a culture based on participation, service and citizen engagement.
- - Offering feedback on the experiences submitted and assessed, including technical support, bibliographic suggestions and training material.
The Regional Award for Successful Service-Learning Practice is open to all public, private or social schools that are developing and conducting Service-Learning of the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia that cover primary and secondary education levels, and all modalities, which are duly recognized and that are developing Service-Learning educational experiences.
There shall be one-thousand-dollars ($1,000) First Prize, seven-hundred-fifty-dollars ($750) Second Prize and five-hundred-dollars Third Prize ($500) to be used to further Service-Learning in your communities. Every participating country will provide Honorable Mentions for semifinalists in a form of Certificate of Appreciation signed and sealed by partners of the CEE SL Network, MIOS and CLAYSS.
All educational experiences shall be submitted by the Regional Award for successful Service-Learning Practice Submission Form.
To be eligible, experiences must have been effectively implemented during the school term 2017/18 and 2018/19, and they must have been finished before April 30th, 2020.
The information stated in the form shall be detailed enough so as to fully describe all the aspects of the experience. Institutions shall be able to submit any other material that they deem relevant to better understanding of the experience.
It is an ESSENTIAL requirement that the form submitted is signed and sealed by the school’s Head Authority (or highest level of Non-governmental Institution under whose supervision you have implemented Service-Learning experience). Name and information of the teacher responsible for the experience shall also be stated. The institution’s head authorities shall give specific details of the intended use of the cash prize, if awarded. The prize shall be cashed in materials necessary to developing and implementing of a new Service-Learning project or expanding the submitted experience. CEE SL countries shall distribute the form through education authorities of each jurisdiction, local organizations and mass media on national level. The form shall also be available on the website of CEE SL Network in languages of participating countries.
Experiences in PDF format and attached supportive materials - evidence, testimonials and indicators that reflect the processes and results that you explain in Submission form (promo material, flyers, posters, video clips, photos, media links, etc.) shall be received from May, 8th 2020 until July, 31st 2020 at email address: email@example.com and shall only be deemed valid when SENT BY EMAIL.
Under no circumstances shall forms and attached materials submitted be returned. Participation in the Regional Award for successful Service-Learning practice implies the consent to release any information and material submitted, should the institution be among the finalists.
Experiences shall be first assessed by the technical team of the Service-Learning Regional Award. Subsequently, they shall be assessed by a jury made up of authorities of the CEE Service-Learning Network and experts in the subject.
The First Award will be given by the end of 2020 in organization of MIOS where all technical and logistical organization of the event will be in accordance to upcoming situation. The winning experiences shall be announced on the website of MIOS, national partners and CEE SL Network page after the ceremony. All participating schools of the Regional Award for Successful Service-Learning Practice are deemed to agree on the rules of this call, as well as on the decisions of the jury, which shall decide in a single instance, without any reconsideration or appeal whatsoever. All participating experiences that haven’t been selected for the finals will receive feedback letters from Service-Learning experts in order to improve the presented proposals.
